Gilda's Club Cooking Demo - August 23, 2017
Today I had a cooking demo at Gilda's Club, a cancer support group in Warminster. At this support group, I decided to bake a delicious and healthy snack that anyone can enjoy, oatmeal-flax chocolate chip cookies. I had an audience of 15 women of different ages, and all of them were absolutely great. While I made the cookies, I answered questions from the women in the audience and told them the story of Young Chefs: how it all started, how it progressed, and what I plan to do with it when I leave for college next year. When I finished the cookies, I let everyone have one, and the feedback was great. They loved it! I want to thank Gilda's Club for giving me this opportunity to do this cooking demo, it was so much fun and unforgettable! My thanks especially go out to Beth Cribb who made this all possible!!
Newtown Day - May 7, 2017
This year, Young Chefs hosted a booth at the annual Welcome Day along Sycamore Street in Newtown, Pennsylvania. Because Matthew was home from college at this time of year, he was able to help me out on the day of this event. He was so excited to participate with me in this fundraiser! We collected donations to give to the Breast Care Center at St. Mary Medical Center. Since this day was focused around community, we allocated the donations to our community's hospital, St. Mary Medical Center. It was overwhelming and extremely uplifting to see the number of people who were interested in helping Young Chefs. In fact, one person who was the Sous Chef of a large restaurant even gave her card out and said that if we ever need help, she would be more than happy to assist. The prizes of the two raffle baskets included a $200 gift card to Vecchia Osteria, a local Italian restaurant, and a multitude of small gift cards that amounted to just over $200. These gift cards were graciously donated by a variety of local restaurants, and we obtained them by going from place to place and asking if the owners would be interested in helping us serve our community. The support we received was phenomenal, and an enormous "thank you" is due to the following companies and restaurants: Vecchia Osteria, Goodnoe, Becky's Newtown Deli, Marco's Pizzeria, Smoothie King, Newtown Bagel Co., La Stalla, Meglio, Moish & Itzy's, Jules Thin Crust Pizza, and The Zebra Striped Whale. Another big "thank you" goes out to McCaffery's Food Markets, who has always donated their fresh ingredients to help us cook our homemade meals. On this day however, McCaffery's assisted us by donating 16 trays of pink frosted cookies to help us draw the attention of locals. Thank you to all who have supported Young Chefs, you have made a difference in the community and are changing the world for the better! Because of the community, $540 has been raised and donated to the Breast Care Center at St. Mary Medical Center!!!
